• If you get a patient on a UAL therapy and either colchicine/prednisone, check to see if this was initiated within the last 6 months, if so then the patient needs to be on gout prophylaxis.  
  • Colchicine may be OK to use in renal insufficiency, but side effects are greater so be very careful.  If you can’t use colchicine, consider low dose prednisone if initiating UAL, 5 mg daily.
