Today, Kristy and Kim shared a few recent admissions with us in a round table setting. Some takeaways:
- NSTEMI (regardless of type) is associated with worsened prognosis
- In the setting of suspected osteomyelitis, empiric antibiotics should be held prior to bone biopsy to assist with long-term management; however, if the patient has evidence of soft tissue or systemic infection, empiric antibiotics are necessary
- Thrombophilia workups for VTE are usually not cost effective
Some useful resources:
- An extremely useful guide to using pubmed searches more effectively for patient care
- Dr. Strong's excellent Cross Cover Medicine youtube series (helpful for students and interns)
- Life in the Fast Lane primer on thromboelastograms (along with hundreds of other useful quick-hit articles on big topics in internal and emergency medicine)
